Christmas in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is always a special city during winter and this year, the capital is certainly the place to be to celebrate Christmas.
Edinburgh and its' people love a festival and in winter it is no exception with a multitude events planned for Edinburgh’s Christmas and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
There is also a celebration of St Andrew’s Day including free entertainment and things to do in St Andrew Square and special offers for Edinburgh’s attractions. This year, Edinburgh residents get a 20% discount off all tickets from Edinburgh’s Christmas and 20% off tickets for the Hogmanay Street Party.
Starting on the 23rd November and closing on the 4th January Edinburgh's Christmas is a spectacular, six-week season of festive entertainment in the heart of the city centre. Throughout Edinburgh a fantastic programme of affordable events has been planned for all ages with return of The Spiegeltent with performances include the Scotch and Soda circus, comedian Al Murray and Stickman, a show based on the children's book by Julia Donaldson.
A new ice rink is planned for St Andrew Square around the Melville Monument and low-cost attractions will be available in East Princes Street Gardens. Locals with an EH postcode will received a massive 20% discount on all shows, rides and events this year. A number of attractions popular last year will be returning including the Christmas Tree Maze, Starflyer, Big Wheel and Paradiso Spiegeltent.
The ice rink, overlooking the Scott Monument, will be back in East Princes Street, while Santa Land - including the train and grotto will be back in the bottom of Princes street gardens. The Big Wheel, enjoyed by 120,000 people last year, will be festooned with 20,000 lights to add to the stunning vista of the Christmas festival. The European Christmas Market will be back in Princes Street Gardens and the Mound, with 106 stalls offering a selection of foods, drinks and crafts from our European neighbours who are always welcomed with a friendly smaile in Scotland's capital city.
